Dr Sina Karimian: "locuming enables me to live the life I want."
There are many benefits to having a “why” in life. This concept, popularised by thought leaders and psychologists, delves into the idea that knowing your purpose – the reason you get up every morning – is fundamental to overall well-being, happiness, and success.
Our mission is to support our doctors in living the lives they want, practising medicine whilst also pursuing all their passions. That's why we wanted to chat with some of our doctors to find out their "why" and how we can support it.
"My "why" in life is to live vibrantly surrounded by those I love and make a positive difference in the world." Dr Sina Karimian told us. "Working as a locum with Medrecruit allows you to choose where and when you work, enabling me to live the life I want. Be that tending to patients, travelling around NZ, being outdoors, or seeing friends. Plus, you get paid well."
In 2022, we helped Sina make the move to live and work in New Zealand as a doctor. Since then, we have continued to work with Sina, finding his locum job roles, assisting with paperwork, booking travel and accommodation, and handling all his logistics. This allows doctors, like Sina to get time back for things they love outside of medicine, enhance his lifestyle, and reclaim work-life balance.

The doctor-patient relationship often draws us into the deepest confidences of individuals. Patients confide in you in ways they may not even with their closest loved ones. It takes a lot of trust...and it's something that I don't take for granted...."
"I believe that being a good doctor starts with taking good care of myself and ensuring I’m the best version of myself. When I’m healthy, fulfilled, and happy, I’m a better human and can contribute to the world."
Working as a locum doctor offers an unparalleled work-life balance, a key aspect often elusive in traditional medical roles. This flexible career path allows doctors to choose their schedules, fitting work around their lives rather than the other way around. With the power to select when, where, and how often they work, locum doctors can effectively manage personal commitments, family time, or leisure activities.
This autonomy in scheduling helps reduce burnout and stress, contributing to better mental health and job satisfaction. Ultimately, locuming empowers doctors with the freedom to tailor their professional lives to their personal needs and aspirations, creating a harmonious balance.
"I enjoy trying new things: from getting outdoors and immersing myself in nature to experiencing different countries and cultures. All while not taking the journey too seriously! Having this balance in life means I can show up for my patients. As a doctor, you may guide a patient through their toughest moments... and that can stay with them for a lifetime."
