How to get the most out of working with a medical recruitment agency

Medical recruitment agency - getting the most

Top tips for working with a medical recruitment agency to get your dream job

Working with a medical recruitment agency is a great way to land your dream job. Because agencies work with a huge range of clients (hospitals and clinics), they’ll have a better idea of the opportunities out there. At Medrecruit, it’s your Solutions Specialist’s job to match your preferences and requirements to an available role. It’s their aim to make a match made in heaven!

That said, there are a few ways you can assist in this process to ensure you’ve got the best possible chance of finding your dream doctor job. Here are our top tips for working with a medical recruitment agency.

Pick an agency and stick with them

Take time to find your preferred medical recruitment agency and once you’re signed up, stick with them. Signing up with multiple agencies doesn’t mean you’ll have a better chance of finding work. In fact, hospitals and clinics tell us that this makes the recruitment process more difficult for them and it makes the doctor in question look inefficient and indecisive.

The same is true if you’re applying directly to hospitals and clinics for their vacancies. While there’s nothing wrong with applying directly, make sure you let your agency know in advance if you’ve done this – you don’t want to be interviewed twice for the same job!

Check your emails and read the information

We’re sure you know this already – there’s a bit of information and paperwork involved in taking on a new doctor job. Emails going unnoticed in the spam folder, or skim reading through the important information are common reasons for things going pear-shaped. A quick but detailed read of this vital information will make the process of starting a new role a whole lot easier. If you have any questions, don’t be afraid to ask – that’s what we’re here for!

Hand your paperwork in on time

Paperwork. It’s every doctor’s best friend. It can be consuming and sometimes a little boring, but it’s essential to getting the job you want. We also know that life and work can sometimes get in the way, but the quicker you hand in your paperwork, the quicker you’ll get through the employment process. Take it from us – in the fast-paced world of doctor jobs, the early bird really does get the worm.

Be adventurous

If you’d like to work at a particular hospital because they offer fantastic training opportunities and you only want to work Monday to Friday and not on call – that’s great! We’ll do everything we can to get you there. But it’s important to remember that the more specific you are, the fewer opportunities there will be. This works great for some doctors, who are in a position to wait for that specific role. For others, who are focused on one aspect like saving money or gaining experience in a speciality, it’s better to think bigger and be open to opportunities beyond a specific vision.

We’ve worked with so many doctors who weren’t sure rural work would suit them, or who were convinced that a big hospital in a CBD would suit them better than a smaller clinic. But by being adventurous, many found their dream role in an unexpected place, or at the very least gained valuable experiences which helped them get that ideal role further down the line.
