Q: Can I work in Australia?

AHPRA registered doctors have lots of opportunities to find permanent and locum work in Australia. Kiwi doctors can work in Australia – you'll need to gain AHPRA registration, and we can assist you in this process. Doctors who gained their primary medical degree overseas are known as International Medical Graduates (IMGs). Ideally, you will have a few years' experience in a comparative health system (like in the UK or Ireland) under your belt. There are a few pathways to work in Australia but it's important to note that there are restrictions on where and how you can work.

Q: What paperwork will I need to apply for roles?

Your registration number, a current CV and three references are the essentials of any job application. Other paperwork that's commonly required is: Evidence of vaccinations, Evidence of your degree/fellowship, Annual Practicing Certificates, Indemnity, A certified copy of your passport and/or driver’s licence, Police vetting form. What you'll need can vary slightly between Australian states and New Zealand. Some states/locations also require you to complete an online training course (eMedical Courses). Medical Superintendent & Psychiatrist Location: South Pacific Region, Australia Employment Type: Permanent Full-Time, carrying some cases alongside a managerial role Salary: $250,000 - $350,000 per annum Contract Dates: 1 October 2026 to 30 September 2027 About the Role An exciting leadership opportunity is available for a Medical Superintendent & Psychiatrist to provide both strategic clinical leadership and direct patient care within a private mental health service.

This position combines executive and clinical responsibilities, allowing the successful candidate to maintain a patient caseload while overseeing medical governance, service development, clinical quality, and operational leadership.

Key responsibilities include: Providing medical leadership and professional oversight Ensuring high standards of clinical governance and patient care Supporting service development and quality initiatives Maintaining an active psychiatric caseload Working collaboratively with executive, medical, and multidisciplinary teams This role offers the opportunity to influence service direction while continuing hands-on clinical practice.
