If you drive, be sure to travel along the surf highway, which connects New Plymouth to Hawera - if surfing's not your thing, no worries, there are plenty of welcoming villages, historic sites, cafes, and scenic spots. If you travel by bus, you will more than likely need to change buses in New Plymouth - what a perfect opportunity to check out some of the boutique stores, delicious eateries, galleries, and museums on offer.
