New MCNZ pathway launched for UK and IE doctors to New Zealand

We are thrilled to have some exciting news to share with you. Starting 1 November 2024, the Medical Council of New Zealand is launching a fast-track registration process for doctors from the UK and Ireland with approved specialist qualifications.

Up until now, the process to register as a specialist has been long and intensive with an in-depth application and assessment process sometimes taking as long as 6 months. However, the Council have now recognised that some specialist level qualifications issued in the UK and Ireland are comparable to the specialist qualifications issued in New Zealand. For those holding one of the approved qualifications, meeting the recency of practice requirement and having a job offer in New Zealand their registration can be approved in as little as 20 working days.

Eligible specialties include those holding the approved qualifications from the UK or Ireland in:

• General Practice
• Psychiatry
• Dermatology
• Emergency Medicine
• Anaesthesia
• Internal Medicine
• Anatomical Pathology
