This state-of-the-art health facility opened in July 2020. The building is sunny and contemporary and has been specifically designed to support the very best care. The hospital has been constructed to make the most of the natural light and beauty of the nearby coast - from the windows look out at views of the ocean and rugged hills.

The facilities cater to a range of patients from emergency medicine to those with planned appointments to see their general practice team.

"Great support and admin help. They work with you to find solutions and remind you to submit your timesheets," said Dr Penzy Dinsdale of her placement at Grey Base Hospital.

The coastal town of Greymouth is known as the heart of the West Coast. It is a town steeped in history including jade hunting, and gold mining.

There is something for everyone in Greymouth - If you're a history buff you can check out the museum, art galleries, or nearby Shantytown.

If food is your thing, be sure to sup on some of the local produce or stop by Monteith's brewery and book a tasting session.

If you are an adventure seeker then you have come to the right place - stroll along deserted beaches, go kayaking or fishing, or trek the 2-hour Point Elizabeth Walk. It winds its way through a scenic reserve and old gold mining sites. It starts 12km north of Greymouth at Rapahoe Beach, which is an ideal swimming spot during summer.
