Staff Specialist – Cardiothoracic Surgery

Location: Hobart, Tasmania

Employment Type: Fixed-Term Part-Time (up to 57 hours per fortnight, 12 months)

Salary: $222,789 - $319,701 p.a. pro rata + superannuation & allowances

Start Date: Negotiable

About the Role

Join Tasmania’s statewide cardiothoracic surgery service at a major tertiary referral hospital. Provide high-quality cardiac and thoracic surgical care, contribute to multidisciplinary case planning, participate in teaching and research, and support the development of junior medical staff and trainees. On-call participation is required. International candidates can be considered.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver elective and acute cardiothoracic surgical care.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary meetings and service planning.
  • Supervise and mentor junior doctors and trainees.
  • Contribute to teaching, research, and quality improvement.
  • Participate in on-call and after-hours rosters.

Essential Criteria

  • FRACS in Cardiothoracic Surgery or equivalent.
  • Specialist registration (or eligibility) with AHPRA.
  • Experience in cardiothoracic surgery, including minimally invasive thoracic surgery.
  • Strong clinical, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Commitment to teamwork, education, and patient-centred care.
