Its shoreline includes white-sand beaches, extensive seagrass meadows, mangrove and salt-marsh fringes, and shoaling channels, with coastal villages like Redcliffe, Wynnum, Manly, Cleveland, and the southern Bay Islands nestled along its edges. Renowned for its biodiversity, the bay supports dugongs, six turtle species, whales migrating along the coast, and over 50,000 migratory shorebirds—highlighting its ecological importance under the Ramsar Convention.
