Job Description:

The Opportunity

We’re seeking an experienced Consultant Psychiatrist to join a leading mental health service in Auckland. This role focuses on liaison psychiatry, providing specialist assessments and consultations for general hospital inpatients and emergency presentations, as well as outpatient follow-up. You’ll work within a multidisciplinary team that values collaboration, cultural safety, and professional development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver psychiatric assessments and treatment plans for medically complex patients.
  • Provide expert consultation to hospital teams and outpatient services.
  • Contribute to teaching and supervision of registrars and medical students.
  • Participate in service development and quality improvement initiatives.

What We’re Looking For

  • Vocational registration in Psychiatry (or eligibility) with the Medical Council of New Zealand.
  • Fellowship with FRANZCP or equivalent.
  • Experience in liaison psychiatry or related subspecialties (adult, addiction, neuropsychiatry).
  • Strong communication skills and commitment to culturally responsive care.

The DHB works to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of services, with primary care and our neighbouring DHBs in the northern region to ensure patients have the health services they need.
Auckland DHB has three major facilities: Auckland City Hospital, Starship Children's Hospital and Greenlane Clinical Centre. Auckland City Hospital is New Zealand’s largest public hospital as well as the largest clinical research facility. There are approximately one million patient contacts each year, including hospital and outpatient services.
