Unaccredited Trainee/Registrar (Orthopaedic Surgery)
Health Service: Western NSW
Role: Trainee/Registrar – Unaccredited Orthopaedic Surgery
Hours: 38 hours per week
Remuneration: $105k – $155k+ p.a.
Start: ASAP
Role Overview
This unaccredited orthopaedic trainee position provides 12 months of registrar‑equivalent orthopaedic experience within a regional setting. The role requires a fairly experienced doctor with prior orthopaedic exposure, capable of working with a high degree of independence within a supervised framework.
You will contribute to inpatient and outpatient orthopaedic care, including running fracture clinics unsupported, participating in operating theatres, performing ED orthopaedic reviews, and supporting registrar leave cover and on‑call rosters where required.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide day‑to‑day care of orthopaedic patients under consultant supervision
- Independently run fracture clinics
- Participate actively in orthopaedic theatres
- Perform ED orthopaedic consults and reviews
- Manage inpatient orthopaedic patients, documentation, handover and discharge planning
- Supervise and teach junior JMOs where appropriate
- Participate in MDT meetings, education, audit and quality improvement
- Contribute to after‑hours and weekend on‑call rosters as required
Candidate Profile
- Minimum PGY3+, with demonstrated orthopaedic experience required
- Comfortable working independently within supervision
- Australian experience or eligible for Competent Authority pathway
- Strong clinical judgement, time management and communication skills
- Interest in regional orthopaedic practice and service registrar roles
- IMGs welcome
