Job Description:

Emergency Department Registrar

Location: Launceston, Tasmania

Employment Type: Fixed‑term, Full‑time

Hours: Up to 76 hours per fortnight

Start Date: ASAP

Contract Length: Fixed‑term to 7 February 2027 (up to 2‑year contracts available)

Salary: $134,930 – $189,005 p.a. pro rata + 12% superannuation

Our client is seeking motivated Emergency Medicine Registrars to join a high‑acuity, consultant‑supported Emergency Department in Northern Tasmania’s major referral hospital.

 

About the Department

This ED is a modern 43‑bed unit seeing approximately 45,000 presentations annually, with a 30–40% admission rate and a 20% paediatric caseload. As the referral centre for Northern Tasmania with no bypass, registrars gain exposure to true emergency breadth and acuity, supported by:

  • All major inpatient specialties on site
  • Fully supported ICU with ECMO capability
  • 24‑hour cardiac interventional angiography
  • Direct FACEM supervision from 8:00am–midnight, 7 days per week

Training & Development

The department is accredited for 24 months of ACEM training, including paediatric logbook and TS4 accreditation. Registrars receive 5 hours of protected teaching per week and access to:

  • ED Ultrasound special skills positions
  • 6‑month Anaesthetics rotation
  • Medical specialty rotations
  • Protected CST time for Senior Registrars
  • Structured Primary and Fellowship Exam preparation

Eligibility

  • AHPRA General or Limited Registration
  • Working With Children Registration
  • ACEM/FACCRM/EMC/EMD pathway engagement desirable
