FAQs

This depends on where you work – the hospital or clinic chooses how a doctor is paid. This will work one of three ways:

  • You’re paid by the hospital/clinic as an employee
  • You’re paid by the hospital/clinic as a contractor
  • Medrecruit pays you directly (this can be as a casual employee of Medrecruit or via your company)

Your recruitment specialist can tell you which method you’ll be paid for each job you undertake.

Your registration number, a current CV and three references are the essentials of any job application. Other paperwork that's commonly required is:

  • Evidence of vaccinations,
  • Evidence of your degree/fellowship,
  • Annual Practicing Certificates,
  • Indemnity,
  • A certified copy of your passport and/or driver’s licence,
  • Police vetting form.

What you'll need can vary slightly between Australian states and New Zealand. Some states/locations also require you to complete an online training course (eMedical Courses). We're here to help guide you through the requirements, and we'll give you a checklist detailing everything you need.

No, our service is free for doctors! We're paid by hospitals and clinics for our services and are preferred suppliers in several states and areas. Because we have a huge network of doctors, we save clinics and hospitals time (and money) by taking the stress out of the hiring and credentialing process.

Known as one of the best medical locum recruitment agencies in Australia and New Zealand, we're preferred suppliers to hospitals and health care practices across Australasia. This means we can get jobs to you before they've reached the market. Our recruiters and dedicated placement teams go the extra mile to deliver exceptional service and be the very best locum agency. Our consultants are experienced, knowledgeable and strong negotiators. They will find the right job for you at the best rate.

Yes, rural generalists are in high demand across Australia. With many rural and remote communities facing limited access to healthcare, high quality, skilled rural generalists play a vital role in providing comprehensive care to underserved areas.

Rural generalists in Australia typically earn between $250,000 and $400,000 AUD annually, depending on experience and location. Additional incentives, such as relocation packages and rural allowances, can significantly increase overall earnings.

A Rural Generalist is a specialised General Practitioner (GP) who has completed the rural generalist pathway, which includes additional training and certifications, to provide comprehensive care in rural and remote areas. These professionals are equipped to handle a wide range of medical needs, including primary care, emergency care, and sometimes allied health services, often in settings with limited resources.

Becoming a Rural Generalist can significantly benefit your career by broadening your skillset and providing experience working across multiple specialties, functioning as a medical officer or, down the line, a specialist consultant with a joint application to the Medical Board of Australia made with ACRRM and RACGP. It offers an opportunity to support rural communities and, due to high demand, there are many job opportunities and competitive earning potential. With flexibility, including part-time options, Rural Generalist roles also allow for a better work-life balance while advancing your career in a specialised and rewarding field.
